JARVIS Thomas Jarvis passed peacefully at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama on June 1, 2012 at age 93. Mr. Jarvis is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Jarvis, of Auburn, granddaughter Lucy Kate O Dowd of Savannah, Georgia, grandson Jake O Dowd of Auburn and three special nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife Kathryn Smith, the love of his life. Tom was born in 1919 and spent his boyhood on the family farm near Madison, in the Florida panhandle. He graduated with high honors from the University of Florida in 1947 with a degree in journalism. He married Kathryn in 1949 and lived in Jacksonville, Florida where he worked as a medical editor and writer for many years. He was an active member of First Baptist, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and devoted servant. He moved to Auburn in 2009 to be with his family. Tom was a voracious reader throughout his life and enjoyed walking in Kiesel Park with the golden retrievers Sam, then Indy. He was most appreciative of the Sherriff s Home Alone elder calling service, the staff of the Auburn public library, the people who shared his joy of Kiesel Park, and during his final days, the caring staff at Bethany House. He was gentleman in the truest sense of the word who touched many lives. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 , 1:00 pm at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home Edgewood Chapel.
