Dr. Susan Elizabeth Arnold, 73, passed away on August 24, 2022 at her home after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. She was born in Jacksonville on July 15, 1949, the daughter of Charles Warner and Audrey Booth Arnold.
Susan received her BA degree from Queens College in 1971 and her MA and PHD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 and 1976. Prior to her retirement she was a consultant to the office of management and budget of the United States Congress and was a grant coordinator for several nonprofit organizations. Her most recent work was for River Region in Jacksonville.
Susan loved music, piano, traveling, bridge & reading. Her genuine connection with animals and the environment resonated throughout her life and was apparent to all who knew her. She was passionate about her family & friends, but her biggest joy in life began when she brought her daughter Lily home from China just 26 years ago. Susan was loving, caring, quirky, sometimes forgetful, always full of laughter, and one of Bold Bean’s most faithful customers. She was a phenomenal mother who gave her all as both a parent and a friend, and she will be deeply missed.
Susan is survived by her daughter Liliana Mao-Qing Arnold, sister Miriam Lewis (Herman), brother Charles W. Arnold, Jr (Carolyn), and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville and Houston and the wonderful nurses and staff at Community Hospice & Palliative Care. A special thank you to Linda Abercrombie, Crystal Nuñaz, Wayne Misener, and the team from Cornerstone Caregiving who not only extended her life but made everything peaceful & safe the last several months.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Community Hospice Palliative Care and Jacksonville Humane Society.
A celebration of life will be held at San Jose Episcopal Church on September 7, 2022 11:00am, with reception to follow, 7423 San Jose Blvd.
