Sonja Yvette Mathis Sellers went home to be with the Lord on September 15th, 2014. Ms. Sellers was born September 4th, 1942 in Vero Beach, Fl. After graduating from Vero Beach High School, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she attended and graduated from Jones Business College. Ms. Sellers was employed by the City of Jacksonville as a legal secretary, where she retired after 20 years of service. Sonja was an avid reader, who loved reading her bible and other inspirational devotionals that brought her great joy, especially the daily devotional books she received each Christmas from her grand-daughter Ally. Also an avid Jaguar fan, she would faithfully watch them every time they were on television, no matter how good or bad they were playing. Sonja was a member of Rise Church, and would always attend services rain or shine. She loved Gods Word and loved singing praises to her King alongside her beloved family. Sonja was a very compassionate, loving and giving person, always putting her family and others needs before her own. She gave regularly to various charity organizations , which just further exemplified her very special and selfless spirit that will be greatly missed. Her favorite bible verse was John 11:25-26, "Jesus said unto her. I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."
Ms. Sellers was preceded in death by her father David Walter Mathis, her mother Minnie Lee Mathis, her sister Leana Wilkerson and her husband Marshall Sellers. She is survived by her brother Leroy Mathis, her daughter Cynthia Greer, her son Dale Sellers, and her granddaughters Leigh Ann Humphrey and Alexandria Sellers. Sonja is also survived by many dear family and friends.
Ms. Sellers' funeral will be held on Saturday September 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home, 729 South Edgewood Avenue, Jacksonville, Fl 32205.
