Salwa was born on October 26,1939 in Ramallah, Palestine, she moved to the United States in 1948 and was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, FL. Salwa was married to Bateh P. Bateh, on December 26, 1954, and enjoyed 61 joyful years together.
The wonderful life they shared was centered around their family, church, and community. Salwa had 6 adoring children and two grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Salwa was also loved dearly by her many nephews, nieces, great- nephews & nieces, cousins, friends, neighbors, and customers.
She was a dedicated parishioner of Assumption Catholic Church for over 60 years and a strong believer in her faith. Salwa was known for her cheerful demeanor and positive outlook on life. She was also notorious for being a good listener and giving great advice. Salwa’s catholic faith guided how she lived and raised her family.
As a dedicated Catholic, she found joy and peace in regularly attending mass and being close to Christ. Anyone that knew her would agree that Salwa was devoted to the Church, her husband Bateh (Benny), and her family.
Salwa was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ramallah American Club of Jacksonville. Sara and Benny were known locally for owning a family business. Benny’s Sandwich Shop located in Downtown Jacksonville in the Historic Bank Tunnel and a staple of the community for 30 years. Salwa built a steadfast relationship with the customers that frequented the shop. She so valued and enjoyed her many friendships made there over the years. Salwa was a proud American Palestinian and shared her culture through delicious foods.
Salwa is predeceased by her father and mother Khalil and Hilwa Bateh and along with husband Bateh P Bateh and sons, Peter and Edward Bateh. She is survived by her daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren: Jeanette (Kevin Ferrell), Nancy, Connie, Tracy; Elizabeth & Max Schneider. She is also survived by countless family members.
Visitation and rosary, followed by the funeral service, will be held on Monday, November 25th, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
