Royal Earl Colson passed away at home in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the age of 84. Roy was born January 31, 1936 in Wrightsville, Georgia to Green and Kate Colson (Moye). He grew up alongside his brothers Alvin and Wyman in Mobile, Alabama.
Roy graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Roy met his beautiful bride, Anita, in Mobile, Alabama. Roy and Anita married on August 30, 1958 in Mobile, Alabama. He served in the United States Army at Fort Benning, Georgia as a First Lieutenant in the 577th Engineer Battalion. After serving his country, Roy took a job in Jacksonville, Florida where he and Anita raised their three daughters. He was a self-employed mechanical contractor for over forty years in Jacksonville. Roy and Anita worshipped at Southside United Methodist Church. He was a member at San Jose Country Club where he was an avid left-handed golfer and served on the board. He enjoyed attending the Masters as well as Jaguar football games. Roy will be remembered for his loyalty to his family, sense of humor, dancing skills and his rendition of “Sinking the Titanic” to end any special occasion.
He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years Anita Colson; his parents, Green and Kate Colson and his brother Alvin. He is survived by his brother Wyman; three daughters Camille Borden, Karen Feltman (David), and Robin Freel (Greg); and seven grandchildren, Nicole, Anita, Madeline, Gregory, Laurel, Caroline and Brooke.
Roy’s life will be celebrated at a private visitation and graveside service with family. In lieu of flowers, your kind donation to Southside United Methodist Church or Community Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation of Jacksonville would be appreciated.
