In the loving presence of his beloved wife Margaret and their daughter Kelley Lancaster, Ronald Edward Woods, 81, of Jacksonville, completed his journey on this earth and was welcomed with joy into the Kingdom of Heaven on November 11, 2017. Ron, the son of Thomas Baynard and Imogene Woods, was born on October 27, 1936 and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Hof Germany where he served as a linguist for several years. When he returned stateside, he met the love of his life, Margaret Gibbs, a nursing student at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. They married six months later and shared almost 56 of years of life and love together. He also retired after 36 years with CSX railroad.
Ron will be remembered by all first and foremost as a man of God. His faith was the foundation of everything in his life. He was active in his church as a leader of the youth and young adult groups, and as a Sunday school teacher. He studied the Bible daily, taught, and touched many lives. That faith is now his living legacy. He will also be celebrated for his wisdom, generous heart, tireless work, and his incredible sense of humor that brightened our lives.
Ron leaves to remember and treasure him his wife Margaret (Gibbs) Woods; his children Kim (Woods) Meirow (Michael), Kelley (Woods) Lancaster (Tom), and Kendall Woods (Jami). He also leaves his grandchildren Kasey (Yaeger) Winter (Dean), Matthew Woods, William Woods, Jordan Meirow (Lisa) and Eden Meirow.
Friends and family will be received at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Murray Hill United Methodist Church, 4101 College Street, Jacksonville Florida. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association in lieu of flowers are also welcome, https://www.lbda.org/donate.
