Roger Lee Zimmerman, 77, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born September 2, 1944 in Saint Louis, Missouri. He is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 49 years, Brent (Nancy), his only child, Maya, his only grandchild, and countless friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Dewalt and Opal, and his brother, Norman.
Roger was born and raised in St. Louis where he attended Affton High School, and he went on to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University. Roger also served his country in the Army as a medic. His 30-year career with IBM started in Columbia, Missouri and took him to San Jose, California, Decatur, Illinois, Leawood, Kansas, and finally Jacksonville, Florida in 1989. He enjoyed traveling, watching football with his friends (Go Gators!), and good meals with his family. Roger’s health deteriorated in his later years, but his granddaughter Maya encouraged him to keep moving. His charisma and smile shined bright everywhere he went. Roger befriended people everywhere he went, charming servers, nurses, friends, and family.
Our family is grateful to know that Roger is finally at peace. Roger is in heaven relieved that he will no longer be required to eat black eyed peas and turnip greens on New Years Day.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel followed by burial at Oaklawn Cemetery on August 1st at 11:00 am, all are welcome.
