Richard John Wheatley Sr.

Richard John Wheatley Sr., 85, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 6:06 AM. Richard was born in Louisville, KY on December 28th, 1937. His parents were Catherine Staier and David Wheatley.

Richard worked at the Jacksonville shipyards before eventually making a career in the Pest Control industry. He worked for Bug Out Services, Inc. as an owner operator, and supported various start-up branch locations, for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1999. In his free time, Richard enjoyed fishing, keeping his yard immaculate, and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Josephine of 63 years, his 4 children; Richard (Eva) Wheatley Jr., Ross (Ginger) Wheatley, Gina (Rob) DelVecchio, and Zina McCall; and his grandchildren Mark McCall Jr., Ashley McCall, Austin (Jordan) Wheatley, Blake Wheatley, John Wheatley III, Diana Wheatley, Devin DelVecchio and great grandchildren Austin Wheatley Jr., and Saylor Wheatley.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Vitas Healthcare for their thoughtful, attentive, caring support at home and at The Terrace of Jacksonville. A special thanks to Iman who provided home care.

A viewing will begin on Friday, August 4, at 6:00 p.m., and a rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral home at 11801 San Jose Blvd. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
