THOMPSON, Richard Clendenin of Charlotte, North Carolina (formerly of Jacksonville, Florida) passed away on March 25, 2014. He was born in Albemarle, North Carolina to Charles and Lily Ray Thompson on September 26, 1928. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952. He was a retired principal for Duval County Public Schools. Richard was a devoted husband of 53 years to Margaret (Brown) Thompson. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Audrey Shinn (Mike) of Gallatin, Tennessee and Linda Raiford (Dan) of Charlotte, North Carolina and a son and his wife, Rick Thompson (Martie) of Jacksonville. He is survived by six grandchildren, Amy Shinn Ray (Tyler), Ryan Shinn (Brooke), Brad Wadkins, Nick Wadkins (Zailey), Matthew Thompson and Jonathan Thompson and three great-grandchildren, Joshua Ray, Bella Wadkins and Melanie Wadkins. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ann Thompson and Esther Pike and is survived by siblings Jane Johnson, Betty Davis, Charles Thompson (Vickie), Ben Thompson (Cathy) and Bill Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Services will be held on Saturday, March 29 at Park Lane Baptist Church, 1480 Lake Shore Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205 beginning with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send a donation in Richard’s name to Park Lane Baptist Church at the address above or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, P.O.
