Pamela Koger Moore

After a long battle with brain cancer, Nancy Pamela “Pam” Koger Moore passed peacefully in the early evening hours of November 27th. Pam came into this world on October 12, 1942 at St. Luke’s Hospital here in Jacksonville. She attended DuPont Elementary School and graduated from Bartram School for Girls. During summer breaks, she spent her time at Camp Idle Pines in New Hampshire, which she absolutely loved.

After graduation, Pam attended Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hills, Massachusetts, doing a year abroad in Paris where she studied at The Sorbonne. She later went on to attend The New School of Social Research after which she studied dance at Helen Norfleet School of Individual Study.

During this time she worked with extremely disturbed children in New York City. As difficult as that had to be, Pam found the job uniquely rewarding as she loved all children. In fact, she would go on to serve as a volunteer art teacher at Fishweir Elementary and other schools throughout the region. It gave her tremendous joy to share her love of the Fine Arts with children who may not have had the opportunity to be exposed to the deeper meaning of art. Her other admirable qualities included giving back to the community, championing social justice and her belief in optimism.

In 1961, she made her debut at The Florida Yacht Club. Three years later, and after only a three month courtship, she married the great love of her life in a most unconventional way. She and her Billy eloped to a gas station in Kingsland, Georgia, going on to celebrate 51 years of marriage.

In 1966, Pam and Billy welcomed their first child, a boy, and named him William Joseph Moore, III (Chip). In 1969, they would complete their family with the birth of their daughter, Nancy Amanda Moore (Mandy).

Pam was a member of the Junior League of Jacksonville, worked at Stein Mart in her later years and ran the Museum Shop at The Koger Gallery & Gardens. In her spare time, Pam was a voracious reader and as such, was an incredibly talented writer. And let it be known that her children and grandchildren were the biggest joys in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Nancy Koger, her sister, Celeste Koger Hampton, and her husband, William Joseph Moore, Jr (Billy). Pam leaves behind her son, Chip Moore (Brooks) and her daughter, Mandy Moore Meeks (Eric) and her three grandchildren, Woody Moore, Phelps Moore and Tucker Meeks. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Pat Coulter Johnson and her brother-in-law, Wade Lee Hampton and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, December 1st at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel at 11:00 am with interment to immediately follow. The family appreciates your kindness at this time and asks that in lieu of flowers that you give to Community Hospice, The Humane Society, The ASPCA or to a scholarship fund to help a young person get an education. Better yet, Pam would say to do something good for someone for no reason at all.
