Born in Brandon, FL on May 1, 1999, to John & Carrie (Richmond) Mooney. Megan grew up in Valrico, just east of Metro Tampa, where she attended Nativity Catholic School and Durant High School before relocating to Jacksonville in 2017, where she attended UNF, majoring in Criminology and minoring in Psychology. She was to graduate with her BA in December 2021. She worked part time for both Publix and Surfer at Jacksonville Beach.
Megan was a lover of the beach, her Delta Gamma sorority sisters and was amazingly talented at any sport she ever played which was almost all sports. She was captain and quarterback of her Durant High School Girls Flag Football team and also a valuable member of the Durant High School Girls Golf team. She was also awarded the Cougar Award as the Most Talented Female Athlete at Nativity Catholic School in 2013.
She was a very humble girl, despite her darling looks and sweet personality. We will never ever forget her gorgeous smile that would light up any room she entered. Appropriately nicknamed “Smiley” by her elementary friends which was later replaced with “Moons by her college friends.
We will always remember that infectious smile, but mostly her selfless, quiet, giving personality. Her presence in our lives will be painfully missed.
When you think of Megan, celebrate the good memories you have of her and the way she made you laugh. Remember that life is so fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest.
Megan was preceded in death by her grandparents; John and Nola Mooney, Jesse and Margaret (Peggy) Richmond; her aunt Jeanine (Mooney) Saal; and her second cousin, Austin Rasmussen. She leaves behind her parents, brothers Johnny and Kevin Mooney and fourteen aunts and uncles, twenty two first cousins and thirty second cousins, and many dear friends.
