Lazarus "Larry" Lebanoff, a devoted husband, loving father, proud military man, and gifted craftsman, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at the age of 97. Born in Oakland, California, Larry lived a remarkable life filled with service, love, and curiosity about the world around him.
Larry proudly served his country in World War II and, after many years of honorable service, retired as a Colonel from the military. He carried this sense of duty and honor throughout his life, imparting these values to those who knew him. A dedicated husband, he spent 67 wonderful years married to his beloved wife, Loretta, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised three children and built a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
An avid traveler, Larry had a deep love for adventure and exploration, seeing and experiencing as much of the world as he could. He was also a talented ham radio enthusiast, communicating with friends near and far, and often using his skills to connect with people all around the globe. In addition to his love of radio, Larry had a knack for working with his hands; he was a skilled handyman who could fix almost anything, always willing to help family and friends with any project. He even took up wire-wrapped jewelry making, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his creativity and patience.
Larry will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. His memory will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. A private family service will be held in his honor, celebrating a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to join in the procession to Jacksonville National Cemetery for a committal service at 2:30 PM, where Larry will be honored with full military honors.
