Kathryn Ann Cavin, born October 2, 1947, passed away on August 3, 2012 at her San Jose area home, surrounded by her loved ones. Kathryn was born in LaCrosse, Kansas, where she lived until graduating high school and attending Kansas State University. After graduating college, Kathryn moved to Los Angeles to become a stewardess for United Airlines. She met her husband Jim during her next career as a facsimile saleswoman living in Minneapolis. When living in Barrington, Illinois, she then began her favorite career as a loving mother, challenging her children daily to achieve their dreams. In her forties, Kathryn returned to school at University of Illinois at Chicago, attending the Jane Addams School of Social Work. Although she initially began working in mental health, after moving to Jacksonville with her family in 1996, Kathryn used her education to work in child welfare. During the last part of her life, Kathryn spent her days as an antique dealer and avid volunteer for the Duval County Democratic Party. Kathryn was known for her big smile and even bigger heart. She was generous to anyone that needed her help, especially her four-legged friends. It is an understatement to say she will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Jim, children Andrew & Courtney, and sister Jeannie (Lee) Flamik and her collection of pets. A memorial will be held in her honor on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00am at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207. In lieu of sending flowers, Kathryn’s family asks that you please make a donation to the Jacksonville Humane Society in her honor.
