Julia Helen Mathews Bowman, 75, passed away on September 19, 2018. She was born on November 1, 1942 to the late, Marion J Mathews, Sr. and Wynona Ives Mathews. She was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL.
Julia was a Deacon and Elder at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She held various offices during her time there including youth sponsor and board secretary. While her children were young she was heavily involved in their schooling, holding offices in the PTA and PTO. She was also involved with chorus, band, school volunteering and she was a tutor. Julia also enjoyed baking and cake decorating. She loved people, but most of all she loved her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas R. Bowman; daughters, Julia Helen Van Camp (Steve), Melissa Carol Charest (David), and Valerie Vermelle Bowman; grandchildren, Deborah Helen Van Camp, Dawn Melissa Van Camp, Nicole Jeanne Charest, Michael David Charest, and Katie Vermelle Charest; and brother, Dr. Marion J. Mathews, Jr. (Sharon).
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 24, 2018 in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 11924 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, with Visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Julia's name to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 11924 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
