Joseph J. Martin of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on May 25, 2019, at 88 years old. He was the son of the late Noah Lee and Mary Etta. He was also predeceased by his younger brother Henry. Joe is survived by Ann, his loving wife of 42 years and both of his sons, Brian (Wendy) and James (Megan). He also leaves behind his elder brother Glen (91) and grandchildren Adam and Brooke.
Joe’s life began in Stokes County, NC. He had a passion for baseball, which kept him motivated to finish school. Upon his graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country for over 20 years before retiring. Joe’s next journey in life was to be owner of Lakewood Shell in Florida where he also worked as a highly rated mechanic for 12 years. During this time, he achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and shared this passion alongside Ann.
Joe noted before his passing that he lived a great life and was truly loved; he was ready to go home to be with the Lord. He and his family had many fond memories of traveling all across this country on vacation and in later years abroad. He had a passion for motorcycles and was a very early member of the Antique Motorcycle Club (Sunshine Chapter).
The services will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Blvd. on Friday, May 31, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10 am with the service at 10:30. Reception following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Hospice.
