John was the second youngest of 8 children. Born to Lina Claus and Martin John Lohrer. John's parents were both immigrants from Germany coming to America thru Ellis Island. His father arrived in 1895 and Lina was processed thru Ellis Island in 1902. John spent his younger years in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, where he graduated from High School.
As a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, John served for 8 years. During World War 2 he was stationed in Green Cove Springs, Florida, San Diego and Hawaii.
While stationed at the naval base in Green Cove Springs, John met and married Jean Butler on June 10, 1943. There first daughter Carole was born in 1944, followed by a second daughter, Annette in 1946.
After leaving the Navy, John apprenticed as a carpenter for Faburg Construction. With no car John rode his bicycle to work. He served as president of the Carpenters Union in St. Augustine. In 1964 John and Jean moved to Jacksonville where John worked for Dan Lee Construction. Where he retired as a supervisor. He retired in his mid 70's. John is grandfather to 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road N. Jacksonville, FL 32225.
