Jimmy was born in Baxley, Georgia in 1937. After school, he moved to Jacksonville, FL and began his 42-year career with Winn-Dixie. He was later drafted into The United States Army in 1961 where he served his country for several years including an assignment in Germany. After his military service, Jimmy returned to Winn-Dixie where he held various management and specialist roles until his retirement in 1999.
He was always known to be an expert mechanic and handy man; where no job was ever too big for him to take on. In the latter part of his retirement, he had a passion for spending time in his garden and traveling our beautiful country. Jimmy was also an active member of First Coast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jimmy is survived by his loving companion of eight years, Dorothy Carter, his two children, Teresa Myers and Malcolm Myers (Rebecca), five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He has one surviving sister with five other siblings preceding him in death. Also, he was preceded in death by his late wife, Alvis Myers.
Jimmy's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and ingenuity. Rest in peace, Jimmy, and thank you for your service to our country and our community.
Services will be at First Coast Baptist Church, 7587 Blanding Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32244, on May 11, 2023. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 AM, the service will begin at 10:30 AM.
