RUMBLE, Janet Spaulding, 92, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2022. Mrs. Rumble was born in Bordentown, New Jersey, on December 14, 1930, and was the daughter of Captain and Mrs. Lonnie W. Spaulding, USMC. Captain Spaulding was the great-great grandson of the honorable Thomas Spaulding, one of the original settlers and planters of the Georgia Coastal Islands. The family moved to Bermuda in 1936, where they lived until 1942 before settling in Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Dr. John C. Rumble, in 1969 and was married until his death in 2018. Mrs. Rumble was a resident of Jacksonville, FL for 80 years. She also spent a great deal of time at their mountain vacation home in Maggie Valley, NC. She loved to travel and did so both at home and abroad extensively.
Mrs. Rumble was a stranger to no one and could talk her way in and out of anything with her gift of gab and storytelling. Her positive outlook on life and sense of adventure were ever present. She was an avid sports fan, particularly football, and was a devoted Florida Gator and Jaguar fan, attending as many games as possible. She had a strong affinity for animals and took in many strays.
Mrs. Rumble was a Certified Dental Assistant and member of the Hospital Authority Board for University Hospital. She was awarded a key to the City of Jacksonville by Mayor Jake Godbold. Above all she loved Jesus and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and taught 4-year-old Sunday School for 30 years.
Mrs. Rumble is survived by her children: Susan Spalding (Don), Kathy Earick (Wayne), Pam Sorensen (Rob), Jonni Wilkinson (Mark), Perry Rumble (Patience), and Susan Pair; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr, John C. Rumble, her sister, Nadine Clarke, her stepson, Mark Rumble, her stepson-in-law, Chris Pair and her granddaughter, Angie Cason.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge. The family will receive friends from 12-1pm.
The entombment will follow immediately in Oaklawn Cemetery and a reception will be held following the entombment at the Oaklawn Legacy Lodge.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
