James obtained an Associates Degree and was a U.S. Army Infantry veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1968 through 1970. He was awarded a Purple Heart due to combat injuries in Vietnam during his 2 years of service.
He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years working at the Murray Hill, Jacksonville, FL office. He also loved farming and owned a farm in Jesup, GA.
James is survived by sons, David Oliver, Benton “Lamar” Oliver and Christopher Oliver; brother, Larry Oliver; sisters, Carolyn Mathis and Grace Yarbrough.
Preceded in death by father, James Benton Oliver; mother, Rosebud Brueshaber Oliver; brothers, Donald Ray Oliver, Jackie “Jack” Oliver and Richard Oliver; and sister, Joyce Thornton.
