Isaac Matthew Gossett, age 82, breathed his soul away into his Savior’s arms on August 17, 2023, at his home in Jacksonville, FL with his wife by his side, after valiant battles with cancer. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Isaac was the fourth of 6 boys, born on March 14, 1941, to John & Margaret in Aliquippa, PA. Isaac began working at Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill at the age of 14. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19 and served our country with honor and dignity. He began a long-standing sales career in California and in 1973, while as a finance manager he met his wife, Toni, who was his loan officer. The two later moved to Scottsdale, AZ and were married in 1977. They happily welcomed their only son, David in 1979. Isaac heard God’s calling and completed his pastoral degree at New Orleans Baptist Seminary in 1994 and went on to perform duties as a pastor in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida, until 2001, when he retired.
Isaac had many amazing, extraordinary and extra extraordinary stories (Gossett Factor), he shared with family during his lifetime. Though he couldn’t fix the washing machine with a crowbar or strange sounds in the bathroom shower with a sledgehammer, he could surely fix the hearts of others by sharing the gospel of Jesus. His only passion, other than spending time with family, was continuing to expand his knowledge & understanding of God’s word with hourly studying and daily devotionals. He had a daily prayer list and spent extensive hours on his knees, until he no longer could.
Isaac was predeceased by his parents, John & Margaret and brothers Jack & Bobby. Isaac will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Toni; his son, David (Heather) & granddaughter, Kya Quinn. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother George of Florida; brother Gary (Esther) of Florida; brother Dennis (Linda) of Pennsylvania.
A graveside service for Isaac will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
A reception will immediately follow the graveside service at the Gossett residence.
