Harold (Harry) Francis Rogers, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 27, 2012. He was born to the late Harold and Edyth Rogers in New Rochelle, New York and lived in Florida and Houston, Texas returning to Florida in 1993. He served in the US Army in Korea. He was a member of the Rogers Department Store family from New York and enjoyed a lengthy career in retail in the New York area and Houston, Texas with Palais Royal, Sakowitz and Frost Bros. Harry loved sailing learning to sail at an early age while spending summers in Shelter Island, New York. He was an avid golfer during his later years. Harry will be remembered for his love of life and his motto was "I refuse to grow up."
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Beverly Nemes Rogers; his children, Jeanne Rogers of Denver, Colorado, Joanne (Robert) Kost of Vero Beach, Florida, Gary (Gisele) Rogers of Germany, and Donna (Larry) Ehrke of Deerfield Beach, Florida; daughter in law, Kathy Rogers of Austin, Texas; sister, Jackie Eberle; sister-in-law, Betty Nemes (Russell) Pilcher; mother-in-law, Beatrice Nemes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with his 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Joan Donnelly, and his son, Glenn Rogers.
The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care by the doctors and staff of Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Beach United Methodist Church, 7th Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
