He is survived by his brother, Robert DuBois; three children, Alan DuBois (Alexa), Leigh Johnson (Trent) and Melinda Greene (Jeff); eight grandchildren, Cameron and Alex DuBois, Ellie and Grace Johnson, Georgia, Cooper, Clayton and Jeffrey Greene; and his loving companion of 18 years JoAnn Stopke of Ingram, Texas. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
George was born February 12, 1937 to Eleanore and George Louis DuBois. He grew up in Atlanta and attended the University of Alabama. Upon graduation he reconnected with a U of A classmate, Allison Brown, and the two were happily married for 35 years until Allison’s death in 1996. George lived in Jacksonville since 1974. He was a pillar of the local maritime community and derived great pleasure from his involvement with the Jacksonville Propeller Club where he had the honor of serving as president. In 1989, George received a heart transplant and paid this gift forward by volunteering tirelessly for the Nielsen Organ Transplant Foundation. His interests were many: Crimson Tide football, Duke basketball, Broadway shows, classic books and movies, his church, and his friends. Above all these though was his devotion to his family. A masterful creator of memories, George annually organized trips to New York at Christmastime and summer gatherings at Neptune Beach to bring all his loved ones together. His kindness, generosity, and indomitable spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Southside United Methodist Church, 3120 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL.
