Elizabeth Simpson Walton

Elizabeth Simpson Walton, 59, died tragically on November 7 after being struck by a car the prior evening while walking in her Atlanta neighborhood. Beppy will be remembered fondly for her generosity, her love of friends, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Beppy’s ability to relate to people in all walks of life, and to make each person feel special, made her notably unique. Always smiling, Beppy lived life to the fullest -- working, traveling, socializing -- all with honesty and integrity. Beppy demonstrated her greatest act of generosity as an organ donor through Donate Life America.

Beppy was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 26, 1953. She attended Ortega Elementary School and graduated from Episcopal School of Jacksonville in 1971. Beppy attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.

An accomplished swimmer, Beppy competed in multiple U.S. National Championships and the Olympic Trials in 1968. During college she helped coach the Carolina swim team, taught countless Jacksonville children how to swim, and coached at the Florida Yacht Club for many summers. Beppy’s career was in sales and customer relations with Delta Airlines where she developed many lasting friendships in multiple locations including Atlanta, Birmingham, Jacksonville and overseas. After 29 years, Beppy retired from Delta in 2006. She spent the past several years as a real estate agent for the Buckhead office of Keller Williams and traveling with friends.

Always willing to help, Beppy was an enthusiastic volunteer for Nicholas House of Atlanta, which provides adult education, transitional housing, and youth programs for homeless families.

A much loved daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend, Beppy is predeceased by her parents William Hampton Walton, Jr. and Elizabeth Schofield Walton. She is survived by her sisters: Mildred (Missy) Walton York of Chattanooga, her husband Ty and children Macon, Oliver, Cole and Billy; and Raymur Walton Rachels of Jacksonville, her husband Phil and children Alston, Lucy, Ford and William; and her brothers: Bill of Jacksonville, his wife Dori and children Francesca, Will and Lon; and Lon of Jacksonville, his wife Terry and children Neale, Ali and Ann Maris.

Following a private burial on Monday, a memorial service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, November 12, at St. John’s Cathedral (256 East Church Street, Jacksonville). A memorial service will also be held at 6pm on Saturday, November 23, at Pace House in Atlanta (3010 Paces Mill Road SE). In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Episcopal School of Jacksonville (4455 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207) or to Nicholas House (250 Georgia Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30312).
