Dorothy Elizabeth Myatt (Jenkins) was born December 16, 1925, in Raleigh, North Carolina to Eddie Davis and Alice Olivia Myatt. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York; where she met Willie Robinson whom she married and had two sons. Willie Robinson Jr. and Arthur Robinson. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida and set up their lives.
Later after the marriage to Willie Robinson ended, she met and married Johnnie F. Jenkins, Sr. From this union she had four children: Sandra A. Jenkins (Chambers) Johnnie F. Jenkins Jr. Alice E. Bing (Jenkins) and Keith D. Jenkins.
Our Mother lived a long and fruitful life, her presence will be felt for years to come. Mother was an only child, she told her mother she was lonely and when she got older, she would have (6) children four boys and two girls, and so she did.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories Willie Robinson Jr (Vickie), Arthur Robinson (Letha), Sandra Chambers ( Carlous), Johnnie Jenkins Jr (Jan), Alice Bing (Lee), Keith Jenkins, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren that I can’t count. Also, others that referred to her as “Mama/Mother Jenkins.”
While raising four small children, Dorothy completed nursing school at Old Stanton Vocational School and passed the Florida State Board of Nursing on the 31st of March 1961. She pursued a career as a nurse over forty years.
Dorothy was a note writer. Many times, when it was needed someone would open their mailbox and find a note card or letter from her. It was the most wonderful thing to receive. And of course, to all of us we were her “baby”.
So today we are here to celebrate, laugh, cry, and tell our stories of our time spent with her.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Christ Is The Way Community Church, 7441 Morse Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32244, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hgriversidefuneralhome.com for the Jenkins family.
