Doris Louise Patterson

Doris Louise Patterson went to be with God on October 29, 2023. She was born March 22, 1930 in Miami, Florida to Ira Phillips and Rebecca (Flowers) Phillips. One of 6 children, she along with her siblings were sent out to live with aunts at a young age. After attending Miami High School, she came to Jacksonville to visit her brother and stayed. She married a Navy man, Leon J. Patterson, and they were stationed to in Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia, Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida, San Diego and Alameda, California until his retirement. She later remarried another Navy man, William D. Wolfe and they were stationed in Washington D.C., Hawaii, and New York eventually moving to Orlando, Florida, upon retirement.

Doris worked in various jobs including Civil Service where she was a Union Steward, and the Navy Photographic Lab in Washington D.C. until moving to Orlando. There she obtained her real estate license and was very successful. Eventually she went to work for the Veterans Administration where she retired after 16 years and moved back to Jacksonville. She did many years of volunteer work for Guardian ad litem, a child welfare advocate organization both in Orlando and Jacksonville.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Ira and Paul Phillips; and her sisters Irene Laney and Betty Pope. She is survived by her sister Barbara Jewel Phillips; sister-in-law Hilda Phillips; son James Patterson (Akemi), Michael Patterson; and her daughter Lauren Jongeneel (Kenric). Her grandchildren are Misti Ketcherside (Mark), Sarah Miller, Megan Patterson, Denny Patterson (Shelley), Azusa Hiruta, Sayaka Yokemoto (Kota), Michelle Catt (Mike), Jamie Masters (Tommy), Michael Patterson (Scarlet), Ava Jongeneel, Andrew Jongeneel, and Nicholas Jongeneel. She has numerous nieces and nephews along with 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was a big fan of dog racing and Jai alai. Her proudest achievement in her life besides raising and nurturing her family was forming a Gospel Chorus group with her sisters called Family Now. After so many years apart, the sisters were finally together as a family praising God with their singing. They are finally together again in heaven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the local SPCA. She always loved lost and desperate animals.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. The family will receive friends one hour prior at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the funeral services at Riverside Memorial Park. Pastor Ray Mayfield will serve as officiant of services for Ms. Patterson.
