It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of David Eugene Schnittke, of Jacksonville, Florida, on April 13, 2025, at the age of seventy-six. He was born on August 3, 1948, in Mansfield, Ohio to Fredrick and Matilda Schnittke.
David leaves behind a crew that loved him fiercely and laughed with him often. His wife of 36 years, Christina Schnittke (who now has full control of the TV remote). As well as three sons - Jon, Todd, and David Schnittke, of Mansfield, Ohio. In addition, three daughters - Sandi Braithwaite, Robin McBryde (Rob), and Angela Vithous, of Jacksonville, Florida. Along with thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren (yes, he kept count). He is survived by his brother, Carl Schnittke of Ontario, Ohio. Not to mention extended family and friends.
Waiting to greet him with hugs (and maybe a few jokes he had told too many times) are his sisters - Anita Mawhorr and Betty Lou Poland of Mansfield, Ohio. Also waiting, with open arms, are two grandchildren - Amanda Workman of Mansfield, Ohio and Cody McBryde of Jacksonville, Florida.
David Schnittke was a one-of-a-kind blend of stubborn, sweet, and hilarious man who graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1966. To then serve eleven honorable years in the U.S. Airforce, before planting roots in Jacksonville, Florida. He worked as a design engineer for BE Aerospace for a decade. When he officially retired, he was home to keep his wife on her toes. David had a deep passion of being the unofficial CEO of mischief with his grandkids and great grandkids-whether it was sneaking them candy, teaching them how to yell at a referee or just stirring up harmless chaos for fun. A die-hard fan of the Seminoles and the Bengals (he believed both teams could win every year, bless his optimistic heart).
He would wear the opposing color of whoever his wife was rooting for just to cause chaos. He also had a deep passion for NASCAR (as his family could tell while riding with him). He was a treasure-hunting master at estate sales, a shopping guru, and a music lover with excellent taste (according to him). He had a soft spot for corgi’s, which we are sure, plenty greeted him (wiggling butts and all). To say he will be missed by all is an understatement.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 16 on September 12th, 2025 at 11am. The address is 747 South Main Street in Mansfield, Ohio.
