David Howard Bruner left this earth on January 29, 2021 for his home in glory. He was at home surrounded by loved ones. Howard was a very active energetic, fun loving man until cancer took its toll on his body. Anyone who knew Howard, knew of his love of life, both of his wives, and his family and friends. His passions included travel, golf, music, and his all time favorite activity was dancing. It was something he did a lot of in his youth and then later when he found a dance group through the senior center.
Soon after graduation from high school, Howard, like thousands of other young men, was drafted into the Army. He served his country with a pride that he carried throughout his life. He especially enjoyed his travels while in Europe and the friends he made during those years.
Upon his return to civilian life, the railroad was calling his name and he went to work with the L & N Railroad located in Louisville. Consolidation in 1980 brought Howard and his family to Jacksonville where he remained for the duration of his life.
Howard is survived by his wife Mary, of the home, son David and wife Karen, son Gary and daughter Julie Beck and husband Fred; grandchildren Lauren Beck, Darren Bruner, Logan Beck and Nolan Bruner; stepdaughter Sandra Grant and husband Jerry, stepson Russell Boyer and wife Jennifer; step-grandchildren Ashleigh and Emma Boyer, Jonathan Grant, Matthew Grant and wife Alicia. Howard was delighted to spend time with great grandson Henry Oliver Grant. Surviving siblings are Leonard (Lee), Doris Farrow, Dalton, Mary Ann Cox, Wayne (Donna), Verna Lerma, Vernon (Judy), Larry (Crystal).
Howard was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Carlton and Lillie Mae Bruner, first wife Betty Wray Bruner, brothers Charles, Elmer and James (Jimmy) Bruner, sisters Audrey Stith and Thelma Dotson.
The family is grateful for all the concern, love and support during this time.
