Cecelia Marie Tullis, known by all as just “Marie”, went on to be with her Jesus early in the morning of February 17, 2015. A Virginia farm girl by birth, she was born on Flag-Day, June 14, 1919 at Carvins’ Cove, just outside the city of Roanoke, Virginia. Her father was John Henry Gusler, a Farmer and lumberman, and her mother was Allie Mentie (Woods) Gusler. Marie learned early in life how to care for other people, having taken care of her own mother who died of tuberculosis (TB) when Marie was only twelve years of age. This skill of taking care of others marked her for the rest of her life as she was all about “Doing” for others what she could. On April 23, 1938 Marie married a Florida boy, Ralph Alton Tullis. Ralph predeceased Marie and went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2003. Ralph and Marie brought three sons in to the world, and those sons survive their parents. They are: Ronald A. Tullis (& Katie); Lonnie R. Tullis (affectionately known as Reggie)(& Margaret); and, Norman E. Tullis (&Mary Alice). Marie and Ralph had moved to the state of Tennessee from Jacksonville, Florida so that they could be close to their three sons in the twilight years of their lives. Marie would want all of you who read this to know that she will cook dinner for you when you get to heaven and bake your favorite cake or pie, or whatever it is you like, when you get up there with her. She loved her kitchen, and it was the place she made gifts for others in order to bring a little joy in to their lives. She was a SERVANT/GIVER type soul. Marie cannot be remembered for having ever asked anyone else for anything. She was not thinking of herself or what she wanted, by always thinking of what would make you happy, or what you would like. She understood well the idea that to make a friend you first need to be a friend. And her life was filled with friends who really loved her.
One of Marie’s favorite stories was about how her mother, while on her own deathbed, asked her to promise that she would continue to pray for her father’s salvation. Marie did that, and before her daddy died much later she was able to see him come to the Lord, be baptized, and given the hope of eternal peace with God. If Marie did not tell you about Jesus, or tell you that you should tell others about Jesus, she was asleep. Now, while she is asleep, she would STILL want to tell you about Jesus. Marie loved the Billy Graham ministry, was active in it when it would come to Jacksonville, and would probably tell you that she would really like it if you sent a little something to that ministry. While living in Jacksonville she and Ralph were very active in the First Baptist Church there. Marie leaves eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She loved them one and all, would remember their names and birthdays, and usually had a little gift for them when she was still able to do her kind deeds. She will be greatly missed by all who know her, and may God raise up son Godly women to come along after her to fill the spiritual void that her passing has left in the world.
