Catherine (Cathy) Coleman, 84 of St. John’s, FL passed on May 26, 2023. Cathy was born in Howell, GA on November 20, 1938 and was raised in Jacksonville FL. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis E and Inez (DeLoach)Weinberg, two brothers: Randy (Joan) and Raymond “Buddy”Weinberg. She is survived by her sister, Eula Mae (Doug) Teston, her loving and dedicated husband of 57 years, George Coleman.
Her living legacy includes two daughters: Cathy “Denise” (the late W. Fred) Husbands, Crystal “Renee” Lambing (Jeff Knudson), a foster son, Ronnie (Connie) Pope, five grandchildren: Carrie (Lance) Foster, Joshua Floyd (Nicole Prieto), Michael (Ashley) Smith, Stephen (Courtney) Loucks, Amanda (Chad) Dawson; nine great grandchildren: Ciera and Savon Foster, Rylen, Noah, and Ramsee Smith, Chase Simpson, Myla and Raelynn Dawson and Jack A. Floyd, and one great-great grandchild: Savian Foster.
Cathy attend public school in Jacksonville and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School where she was first chair trumpet in the band. She later went on to attend Cosmetology school. Cathy was a Master Cosmetologist, with well over 100 trophies and awards. She was one of the top Stylist in Florida for competition work and placed 3rd in the 1980 International show in New York. She also belonged to the Florida Hair Fashion Committee where she taught and judged competition work for hairdressers.
For the initial 5 seasons, she was the contracted hairstylist for the Jacksonville Jaguars “Roar” cheerleaders.
Cathy owned and operated Cathy Coleman’s Beauty Salon and worked at C C and Company’s Beauty Salon in Regency area of Jacksonville and was licensed in permanent makeup.
Cathy was a avid collector of all things, from primitives, sports memorabilia, fine art and antiques. She was outgoing, loved to tell jokes and was the life of a gathering. She had many hobbies, including floral arranging, reupholstering, drawing, jewelry making, crocheting and furniture painting.
Cathy was authentic to herself and always spoke her truth. She was a wife, a mother, grandmother and her family was blessed to have such a strong willed woman in their lives.
Cathy lived with Alzheimer’s for 12 years. George, her devoted husband was her primary caregiver for those many years, caring for her in their home, which was her wish.
Cathy’s immediate family would like to express a special thank you, to many family members and Community Hospice for assisting with her care throughout the years. A special thank you to Karen Hill, Laura Monise and Jessica Long for their extended time caring for Cathy.
We thank you all for being a part of Cathy’s big and colorful life. Let her life live on in our hearts and memories.
A visitation for Catherine will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A graveside service will occur Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 202 Wayfare Rd, Lake Park, GA 31636.
