Carol was born on August 29, 1942, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Marie McCaulley. She graduated from Paxon High School in 1960 and soon after married her beloved husband, Clayton Norton, on October 9, 1961. Together, they shared a passion for the Jax raceways and were active members of the CB radio club, known affectionately as Flatout and Butterfingers.
Carol's professional journey led her to serve as the front desk phone operator at The Florida Times Union Newspaper. After 23 years of trying to have a baby, Carol's life took a joyous turn when she welcomed her daughter, Lydia, into the world at the age of 42. From then on, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to motherhood. In addition to her devotion to her family, Carol worked at Riverside Presbyterian Day School (RPDS) and remained committed to her faith as a member of Murray Hill Baptist Church and later Westside Baptist Church.
Carol's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family and into her community. She was known for her generosity, often baking treats and hosting gatherings for friends and loved ones. Her green thumb was evident in her love for gardening, particularly tending to her flowers.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton Norton, her mother Marie Lucille McCaulley, sisters Margaret (Ray) Semones, Becky Caudill, & Pat Sitz, and brothers Al and David Sitz, as well as her nephew Robbie Sitz.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Lydia (Chris Pulliam), her grandson Kaleb Clayton Burnell, and her bonus grandsons: Dylan, Nate, and Andrew Pulliam. Carol is also survived by her brothers Mike & Bob Sitz and brother-in-law Michael Caudill, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family to her.
Instead of flowers, her wishes were for you to donate to your favorite charity.
A Celebration of Life Service for Carolyn will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
