June 15th is in a month and a day, 5 years already, hopefully you can see just how much you are missed. We love you. 


It's Thursday, February 7th 2019. You've been gone 5 years. Wow! Still can't believe your gone. Feels like yesterday we were at our bus stop cracking jokes and being teenagers. It's hard to write this because it feels so unreal that your actually gone but here we are, as real as it can be. Just know your not forgotten. June 15th is coming up. It's gut wrenching and heartbreaking to think of. Hope your life is better up there than what it was down here. Many people miss you!! I hope heaven is treating you well Mattman! Til next life. Live it up Matt 💙 Forever missed NEVER forgotten.

All these people forgot. 
But i didnt.   You took your last breath 4 years 1 month 12 days 23 hours and 27 minutes ago. Noone else. Knows you. The way i know you. You were my big brother. You were family. One that actually cared. We spent years together.  You protected me and i gave you someone to protect. We pretended to hate each other. But didnt dare say we did. You filled in a blank i was missing but now that your gone. That space is 20 times its size.  How can i breath without my lungs. How can i see without my sun. You were the sunshine in my hell. Now all i have is blankness. But i remember that smile you gave me the day you died.  It was bright. You were supposed to go to football camp the next day. You were gonna play for westside high, a freshman in highschool. Now i look back and realise im older.  Then you were. I feel guilty ive lived this long without you. But. Brother. You shine for me. Even in death. Your my motivation to move forward to never shame my past. I love you and miss you. I still know who you are,were and was going to be. Talk soon, brother. Play easy.

Matt man I love and miss u son,  I had u for 10 years, I was and always will b proud of u, its so hard to believe it's almost a year u have been gone,, me and Haley bug a lead talk about u. I would give anything to b able to c that smile and to tell u how much I love u, and no matter what u will a lead b my son too. I enjoyed and love being a big part of ur life.  u were my. ill side kick. u were with me almost. every where I went and I enjoyed being with u. I miss and love u so much,, u will always b my son

My heart goes out to you and your family. Times like this can be hard but I hope you can draw comfort from the Bible.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Bryan's family. I was his English teacher from October 2013-until January 2014. He was the best student who strived to do his best and applied everything he was taught to do to improve his writing. He had big aspirations of being a star athlete and wrote about heroes and people he admired. I looked forward to reading his work and watching him grow in class preparing for the high school experience looming in the future. He and his friend, Charles, were inseparable and helped each other the way "buds" should. My memories are all happy about Bryan and hope the family takes comfort in knowing he was one of the "good" guys.

My deepest condolences to the family.  May you find strength in the words of Isaiah 51:12, "I myself am the One that is comforting you."

The Memorial being held at Jefferson Davis Middle School on Sunday June 22, 2014 from 7:30pm - 9pm following the funeral has been approved. Come join us celebrate the life of Bryan Matthew Scott Layfield on the track field with love and memories. All are welcome.

Bryan was a model student who I loved having in class.  He was sweet and quiet, but always smiling at the antics of his classmates.  He worked hard and tried to always do his best. My students are like my own children and it hurt so much to hear of Bryan's passing. My prayers and thoughts go to his family and friends who are suffering so much heartache.  Ms. Melinda Lee
