A celebration of her life will be at 9:00AM, Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32218, her son, Lindsey Cook Brock III, officiating. Arrangements are by Chapel Hills Funeral Home.
Billie Lee, or Nana as she was known to her grandchildren, was born in Lexington, Kentucky to Frederick Hipp Sheckler, Jr. and Julia Naomi McHargue Sheckler on June 23, 1945. She graduated from Irvine High School and obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Eastern Kentucky University. She married Lindsey Cook Brock Jr. on September 7, 1964, in Irvine, Kentucky. Her career was as an elementary educator, teaching and caring for children in five different states for over 30 years. After her retirement, she dove into her family history, leading to service as an officer and member at the local, state, and national levels of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and as a senior officer with the Children of the American Revolution, for which she received numerous awards and accolades. Billie enjoyed traveling with Lindsey across the country and across the world, from Europe to the Middle East. Her skill as a seamstress lead to gifts of teddy bears, quilts, and all sorts of items. She had the gift of creativity. Family was always the most important thing to Billie. She cherished the times together on holidays, birthdays, or just Sunday lunch after church. You could always count on Billie to make a call, drop a handwritten note, or send an email just to check up on you. She was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. Billie was an example of Christ in compassion and care, always putting the needs of others before herself.
Billie is preceded in death by Frederick Hipp Sheckler, Jr. and Julia Naomi McHargue Sheckler.
Billie is survived by her husband, Lindsey C. Brock, Jr.; her son, Lindsey C. Brock III, and his wife, Carol Brock; her brother, Jerry Sheckler, and his wife, Marly Sheckler; grandchildren, Connor Brock, and his wife, Madisyn Brock; Caitlin Wolf, her husband, Zachary Wolf, and Baby Wolf due to arrive in 2024.
