Betty Swanson Spiers passed away March 2, 2024. Betty was born January 1931, in West Virginia to Delmore and Frances Swanson who predeceased her.
She moved to Jacksonville as a child and grew up here.In 1952 she married renowned NASCAR engine builder, Irwin "Speedy" Spiers and they enjoyed many years of racing events together. Speedy passed away in August 2019.
An avid animal lover, Betty could be counted on to feed and care for wild animals and pets, equally.
After a 30 year career at Southern Bell, she retired to their lovely home on the banks of the intracoastal waterway.
A funeral service will occur on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friend one hour prior to the service.
