Barbara Jordan Brooks

Barbara Jordan (Mimi) Brooks, 84, of Jacksonville Florida went Home on to be with the Lord on August 14, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born December 17, 1933 in Jacksonville Florida to the late Bernice M Crews.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, William J. (Bill) Brooks, her beloved grandson David L (DJ) Brooks, Jr and daughter- in-law Leigh Anne. She is survived by her sister Margreeta (Tistie) Barber; children Debbie Derovanesian (Jack), Dale Brooks (Sarinnette), Daneece Brooks (Rick), David Brooks, Darrell Brooks (Marsha); grandchildren Allison and Jack Derovanesian, Will Brooks, Juliette and Annabelle Viera-Ramirez, Kyle (Sarah) and Chad Davis, Johnny (Olivia)and Jordan Brooks, Whitney (Matt) Mirabella and Brandon (Abbey) Eaves; great grandchildren Lilly and Deacon Davis, Brooks and Landon Mirabella; nieces Cheryl Fisher (Charlie) and Cynthia Barber; and her dearest friend for more than 45 years, Nancie Collins.

Barbara received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Jacksonville University and a Masters Degree in Health and Human Services Administration from University of North Florida. She had a diversified professional career as an elementary school teacher in the Duval County School system, was the first female Division Chief of Family Services for the City of Jacksonville appointed by then Mayor, Hans Tanzler III and spent the next thirty years serving both Duval and Bradford Counties as a Nursing Home Administrative Director. She was recognized during her illustrious career with many notable Awards and Certifications of Excellence in the Senior Healthcare Administrative field. In 1999, out of 35 facilities in the State of Florida, she was named “Administrator of the Year” by Delta Healthcare, Inc.

Barbara had a servant’s heart and was an accomplished organist/pianist in several community churches. She is currently a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church. While she had many hobbies, she loved sewing, cooking, and baking for family and a multitude of friends. She will always be remembered for her intense devotion to her family and her special bond with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family will receive visitors from 10am to 12pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Barbara Brooks to Community Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Florida (Jacksonville).

The family would like to thank Community Hospice, specifically the staff at St. Vincent's South for their love and support. We could not have asked for more in the care of our mother. "Thank You" is not enough.
