Captain Ronald Edward Mullen, USN (Ret), born in 1934 in Reno, NV, was reared in San Francisco. He graduated from Stanford University (BA '56, MA '58). In '59 he entered the Navy as an ensign specializing in Naval Intelligence and served until '86, including 2 tours in Germany and 3 in Viet Nam where he supported Navy SEAL operations and received the Bronze Star and the Navy Commendation, both with Combat "V".
During a language assignment in Germany he met the love of his life, Anne-Marie. They married in '71 and have a daughter, Alexandra Begley. Upon retirement he worked 20 years for SAIC in McLean, VA, retiring as a Senior Vice-President. Retired to Florida to be near his daughter and her children, he pursued yachting, golf and supporting the Jaguars and always the SF Giants. He was a member of the UDT-SEAL Assn and very active in MOAA. He passed away on June 9 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, daughter, sister and grandchildren, who will all miss him terribly.
Visitation will be at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach starting at 10:00 on Tuesday, June 18, followed by a service at 11:00. Interment will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, FL at 2:30 Tuesday.
