CDR Robin Scott Smith, USN, RET earned his angel wings on 23 Apr 2022. He was born on 13 Aug 1967 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife Wednesday Smith, his daughter Caitlyn Smith, and mother Helen Smith.
Robin grew up in Clarksburg, West Virginia and spent his summers at his grandparents in Londonderry Vermont. His grandfather taught him how to drive at age 10 and how to harvest and process maple syrup. An avid swimmer, Robin competed through out his childhood including long distance swimming. A top student, he soon wanted to expand his horizons and joined the Navy.
Selected for the Navy’s Nuclear Power program, he became a Nuke electrician serving onboard USS WOODROW WILSON (SSBN-624). Quickly moving through the ranks, he was selected for 1st Class Petty Officer and then selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He attended the University of Florida and was commissioned in 1995.
He served onboard the USS ARTHUR W RADFORD (DD-968) and USS THUNDERBOLT (PC-12) for his division officer tours. After a shore tour in Virginia Beach with Foreign Military Sales, it was time for his Department Head tours. He was Chief Engineer onboard USS STEPHEN W GROVES (FFG-29) and USS O’BANNON (DD-987). Following the decommission of USS O’BANNON, he served as Chief Materials Officer (N4) for Destroyer Squadron 14.
His final shipboard tour was Executive Officer (XO) onboard USS KLAKRING (FFG-42).
His final tour to take him to his 30 year retirement was the Executive Officer of NROTC at FAMU in Tallahassee.
Following retirement, he worked different jobs until he became part of Patriot Mission. He helped plan and develop long range goals and slim lining process.
Robin’s belief in Jesus Christ was the backbone of his service to God, Family, and Country. His mission statement was crafted to enable him to walk with the Lord and witness to others. He always wanted to share the gospel….using words if necessary.
Please remember Robin as the loving husband, father, and son; who supported his loved ones, was willing to go the extra mile, and truly served God.
