Dr. Richard Jay Greenwood, 74, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on December 1, 2023. Born on August 28, 1949, in Syracuse, New York, Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known by his friends as a dedicated Buffalo Bills fan and his saying “It is what it is”. Richard embarked on a military career in the US Navy where he served for over 20 years, dedicating himself to the defense of our great nation. He had several roles during his military tenure including being an Air Combat Controller for fighter pilots. While in the Navy, he received his PhD in Industrial Psychology from Stanford. After his military career, Richard worked with the City of Jacksonville’s First Responders, where he finally retired from.
Richard will be deeply missed by his friends and surviving family members, including his beloved wife, Linda, his daughter, Jill (Roger) Cajimat, and his sister, Barbara Steffen. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Rita, his father, William, and his sister, Susan.
A ceremony to honor Richard's life and military service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery Lane # 2, 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville FL, 32218. On January 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their final respects.
