She was born in Burlington, NC on January 7, 1925. At age three, Peggy and her family moved to Bartow, FL where she spent her young life and teen years. She developed a creative flair for tap dancing and participated in many dance contests and pageants where she won top prizes in many of them. Peggy attended college in Tallahassee for her freshman and sophomore years where she joined the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her junior and senior years and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
She met her future husband, Jack Burke, in Chapel Hill, and they were married on December 20, 1948. They made their home in Winston-Salem, NC. Peggy was a wonderful Mother and homemaker, and when her children entered college, she worked as an administrative assistant for the manager of 3M Business Systems in Winston-Salem. She had a passion for reading, puzzles and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Burke; her mother, Cornelia H. Morris; her father, Jamie Morris; her aunt, Grace E. Hall and uncle, Jack Hall. She is survived by her son, John K. Burke, Jr., of Tallahassee, FL, and daughter, Susan B. Kerr of Howey-In-The Hills, FL. The family is planning private services at a later date. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Peggy's memory would be appreciated by her family.
