Laura Winifred Weig Mathewson died peacefully on September 16, 2016 following a valiant battle with a rare sarcoma. Beloved daughter of Morris Ossian Weig and Winifred Laura Bunnell, she was born on Long Island, NY on March 30, 1943. She leaves her husband of 48 years and best friend since the age of 12, Douglas Mathewson, II, three adored daughters, Laura Hillary Mathewson Moulliet (Charles, Jr.), Bethany Mathewson Kennedy (Robert, Jr.) and Glenna Mathewson Nail (Robert); 4 grandchildren, a sister Judith (Dr. John Baust), nieces, a nephew, cousins and a host of friends.
Laura received a BS from SUNY Oneonta. For 25 years she and Doug owned a number of ski and sporting goods shops in the New London, NH area. She was active on many boards including Deacon, First Baptist Church and the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club.
The family moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in 1991, where Laura was the southeastern regional manager, Society division, of ClubCorp. Upon retirement, she wrote BOTTOM LINE: MANNERS MATTER and was a popular speaker and trainer. She especially enjoyed her work on television. She served on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, on the Board of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and was a member of Sawgrass Country Club.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 11:00am at Christ Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Springfield, NH.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Laura to Kimball Union Academy, 64 Main Street, Meriden, NH 03770, or to Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
