Dolores Jeannette Buck Coleman

COLEMAN, DOLORES JEANNETTE BUCK died after a 10 year battle with cancer, April 29, 2013 in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Jean was born on August 14th, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She inherited a rich legacy of faith, family, character, and Southern graciousness from her mother Mimi Brothers Buck and lived her life with creativity, humor, and generosity of heart.

Jean attended Judson College in Alabama where she continued her development as a gifted artist. While at Judson, her childhood sweetheart, Walter Coleman won her heart. Jean’s 54 year marriage to Walter was full of adventure until Walter’s death in 2008. Jean and Walter raised five children. Jean loved her role as wife, mother and grandmother. In addition, Jean served in many capacities in both church and community through her participation and leadership in the Garden Club of Winter Haven, as a Girl Scout Leader, head of the Presbyterian Churchwomen, teaching Sunday school, and ministering to the elderly. Those who needed a listening ear always found that with Jean in her kitchen.

Over the years, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, New England Women, and Society Daughters of Colonial Wars.

Her grace, courage, quiet wisdom, and deep faith have left a legacy of love, touching the lives of those who knew her. She saw the good in everyone and helped them see it in themselves. Her love and memory will remain in our hearts and spirits forever--gently urging us to pursue God’s purpose for our lives.

Jean is survived by her sister Cottie Belle Israels, children: Caren Coleman; Cathy Trussell (Galen) and their children Amanda and Caroline; Cynthia Jelinek (Otto) and their children Kristen and Otto; Buck Coleman; and grandson Ryder Coleman. She is predeceased by her son, Jackson Coleman.

A service in celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Community Presbyterian Church in Atlantic Beach on Saturday, May 4 at 4 p.m. with a reception following. Prior to the celebration service, there will be a family graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery at 2 p.m.
