He is survived by his loving parents Jay and Joan Solomon of Atlantic Beach, his brother Michael Solomon and his wife Jackie, daughter Jenevieve and son Jacob of Snellville, Georgia, his aunt Mary Koehlinger of Fort Wayne, Indiana and uncle Harry (Sandy) of Ashtabula, Ohio and great uncle Rev. John Teeters of Tiffin, Ohio.
Dan was a man of many talents. Born October 17, 1973 in Columbus, Ohio he was still in elementary school when he won a video camera in a contest and the die was cast. He fell in love with theatre in high school and graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Then came a degree in film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Returning to Jacksonville, Dan became deeply involved in the City's film and theatre communities. For nearly 20 years he served as a director, screenwriter and photographer producing numbers of screenplays, short films and video projects. In recent years Dan produced many videos for Nemours Children's Hospital and related organizations -- some of which are being used at the international level -- providing easily understood content for patients, families and medical staff.
Dan was also active as volunteer, teaching, and mentoring film students from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and the Art Institute of Jacksonville. Dan worked in support events such as the Jacksonville Film Festival and the 48 Hour Film Festival.
Dan's passion for the arts included music which, when combined with his love of all things Irish, led to him joining Spade McQuade and the All-Stars as a drummer and back-up vocalist. His varied activities introduced him to a huge circle of wonderful friends and collaborators who join his family in mourning his passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family's wish is that memorials be made in Dan's name to the
Douglas Anderson School of the Arts to underwrite scholarships for aspiring filmmakers, or to the Art Institute of Jacksonville with a check made out to "EDMC Foundation" and "Art Institute of Jacksonville Dan Solomon" in the memo notation line.
