Amy Simmons Coleman was born in Providence, RI on March 27, 1962. She spent most of her early years a resident of Jamestown, RI, the daughter of Bay Voyage Inn innkeepers Fred and Nancy Coleman. She was a graduate of North Kingstown High School. In 1987 she met the love of her life, Kathy Sherman, and moved to Atlantic Beach, FL. Amy passed away at her Atlantic Beach home on August 5, 2017.
In 1999 she opened Frank-N-Wurst restaurant in Jacksonville Beach. As co-owner she ran the ‘front of the house’ with the charm and relaxing style of her innkeeper Mom. For the last five years Amy has been the Lead Waste Water Operator for the City of Neptune Beach. She was honored as a Neptune Beach city employee of the year. But that was par for the course as her natural work ethic was only amplified by how much Amy loved her job. She relished going to work and as with anything she did, Amy always had a deep desire to learn more & excel.
It all started at a young age. Amy’s first sentence as a child was short. ”Amy Do!” It was usually exclaimed in multiples of two, at an excited pace & tone and always with arms flailing to stop the person who was trying to assist her. Amy could do it!
Amy enjoyed life. She loved sports and was a diehard Red Sox & NE Patriots fan. She was surrounded in life by many wonderful, sweet, beautiful friends. Anyone that met Amy fell in love with her immediately. She could make you smile and brighten your day the moment she walked into the room. Amy was an incredible life coach and always offered an honest opinion with caring advice.
Amy was predeceased by her son Jamie Sherman. She is survived by her loving wife Kathy Sherman and brothers Fred Coleman and wife Melpha of Lebanon, OR; Peter Coleman and wife Eileen of Palm Coast, FL and Kurt Coleman and wife Denise of Virginia Beach, VA.
Also . . . Amy is survived by Murphy Brown, Mickey and Gizmo . . . three beautiful dogs whose tails have barely wagged since their Mom left to be with the angels.
A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens at 4 PM on August 26, 2017. A memorial service will begin at 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society, http://www.jaxhumane.org.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223.
