Mr. Plemons was born on July 19, 1942 in Sweetwater, TN to the late Walter Ronald Plemons and Aletha Christian Plemons. He graduated from Cairo High School in 1960. Mr. Plemons was a machinist by trade. His career with GM&O Railroad brought him to Jackson, Tennessee where he met his wife, Sharon Kennon Plemons, at a local skating rink. They married November 3rd, 1962. Mr. Plemons retired from Ormet Aluminum in 2004. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church. Mr. Plemons was known for his ornery personality and would let you know exactly what he thought whether you liked it or not. You could find him in the shop working on various projects or on a golf course working on his swing. He enjoyed listening to Tom Jones and Elvis Presley. Lastly Mr. Plemons was a loving son, husband, father, and pawpaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Kennon Plemons; four brothers Hugh Swafford, Chester Plemons, Joe Plemons, Johnny Plemons; and two sisters June Gavette and Wanda Farris.
He is survived by two daughters, Chris (David) Plemons Harding and Katherine (Brandon) Plemons Stanfill; one son, Walter (Tammy) R. Plemons, II; grandchildren, William Cody Foster, Walter R. Plemons, III, Gerald Ryan Plemons, Myrlyn Biffle, Atticus Biffle, Addie Biffle, Grace Lowery, Ian Lowery, Katie Skye Plemons, and Noah Stanfill. Mr. Plemons is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Plemons will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Bro Jimmy Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery in Pinson. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
