Tommy was born on March 12, 1939 in Madison County to the late John Oakley Brown and Nellie Beatrice Mays Brown. He was a graduate of Central High School in Helena, AR in the class of 1957. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. He married Barbara Sparks in 1960 and they had their only son, Richard Brown in 1961. He went on to attain an Associate Degree in Business and Computer Programing from Phillips County College in Helena, AR and the college hired him to teach classes.
The family moved to Memphis where he worked as a Production Manager and then as Material Analyst at Dover Elevator.
He was an active member of the Memphis Greater Square and Round Dance Association and served as the organization's President in 1980 and then again in 1990. Afterward, the family returned to Pinson where he and Barbara currently reside and are members of the Pinson Ruritan Club and the Pinson Methodist Church.
Tommy was the owner of Keen Cuts Sharpening Service for industrial businesses in West Tennessee for over 40 years.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Sparks Brown of Pinson; his son, Richard Brown (Laura) of Horn Lake, MS; his grandson, Rick Brown of Woodbury, TN and great grandson, Robert Brown; a cousin that was like a brother, Bob Brown (Iris) of Jackson, TN; and a host of cousins and extended family.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Tommy Brown will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:00 at Pinson Methodist Church, 2 Old Henderson Rd., Pinson, TN 38366.
