Ron was born on August 16th, 1941, in Jackson to the late Howard Ray Wells and Myra Staples Wells of Beech Bluff. He graduated from Beech Bluff High School and had a long career with BellSouth where he made many life-long friends. After retirement he became a professional “piddler”, enjoying his farm and the outdoors. Ron was always looking for ways to help others. He was a gentle, kind soul and was loved by many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Judy Carol Wells and brother Kenneth Wayne “Bud” Wells.
He is survived by many who loved him: his wife Pat Johnson Wells, his children Angie Wells Powers and Mark Wells (Gary Mathis) and their mother Barbara Elder Downen; his stepchildren Rob Johnson (Linda) and Del Johnson (LeeAnn); his granddaughters Carsyn Powers, Addie Powers, and Kenzie Johnson; and two very special nieces Sheila Freemont and Carol Ann Alphin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Jackson Oaks and his long-time caregiver Becky Stevenson as well as so many others who have helped along this journey.
In lieu of flowers, we think our Dad would appreciate memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Alzheimer’s Tennessee (alztennessee.org).
A service to celebrate the life of Ronald Wells will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024 at 1 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in Beech Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service.
