Robert Lester Camp

Bobby was born in High Point, North Carolina. He lived most of his life in Tennessee. He graduated from The Webb School in Bell Buckle and from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1962. He had lifelong mechanical interests, and worked at the Ford Glass Plant in Nashville until health problems interfered.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina "Chris" Camp of Murfreesboro, brother Charles H. Camp (Patsy) of Jackson, granddaughter Carole Holzner (Eric) and great-grandchildren Madison, Bryson, Kylie, and Jack of Smyrna, and niece Charissa Camp. He was predeceased by his parents, a nephew, and a son-in-law.

Bobby had impressive mechanical acumen and skills. At a young age, he used a box of junk parts to motorize his bicycle. He once asked his parents if he could tune up their car. They agreed. They returned to find their beloved vehicle completely disassembled at their home. He assured them it would be better once he put it back together, and he did so, independently and without delay. He was also an accomplished ham radio operator, and enjoyed conversations with others, both near and far. He had a gentle spirit, and he shared, but he also listened attentively with an understanding ear.

The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood Health Care and Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for their compassionate care over the years, and hospice staff for easing his last days. In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
