Marlene was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of Ira LeRoy Dean and Pearl Elizabeth Shipley Dean.
A graduate of Vero Beach High School, Vero Beach, Florida, she was also a graduate of the first Indian River Junior College nursing program. Marlene entered the health care industry as a Registered Nurse and instructor of EMT’s in Florida, North Carolina, and Louisiana. The highlight of her career was flight and rescue nursing.
After retiring, Marlene moved to Trenton, Tennessee, where she became a member of the Dyer County Master Gardeners. Under her vision and direction Shady Acres Arboretum was created. It is certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Level IV arboretum status was granted in 2013 by the Tennessee Division of Urban Forestry.
She was active with Why Not Food Ministries of Trenton.
M.E. is survived by her two sisters Sandria Beam and Eileen Elliott both of Trenton; a son Thomas Wade Jones of Seneca, South Carolina; two grandsons and two great granddaughters, all of South Carolina, Thomas Alexander Jones and Jonathan Raymond Jones; Elliana Claire Jones and Katelyn Elizabeth Rae Jones.
A memorial service will be held at Salem Baptist Church, 199 Neal Kinsey Road, Trenton, TN, Tuesday, June 4, 1:00 PM.
