Dr. Jack Howard Booth, MD

Visitation will be at Forest Heights United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 5th from 1-2:30pm. A Christian Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:30pm with Pastor Paul Clayton officiating.

Jack was born in a log cabin in New Harp, Texas to John and Nancy on May 8th, 1922. He went to Texas Wesleyan, Yale University, and the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston. In a small ceremony on April 17th, 1946, Jack married the love of his life, Martha Ruth Carter Lowry. After multiple moves for Jack’s medical training and residencies, they arrived in Jackson in 1957. Dr. Booth remained the only orthopedic surgeon at the Jackson Clinic for five years. He was instrumental in getting a clean air room in surgery and bringing total hip and total knee operations to Jackson.

Jack and Ruth were active in Forest Heights Methodist Church and later Evangelical Community Church. Together they were also involved with community and health organizations, including the Jackson Symphony, Sheriff’s Town, Red Cross, Jackson City School System, and many others. Many individuals that Dr. Booth and Miss Ruth have taken into their home at intervals became as members of the family, and have contributed richness to their life.

Dr. Booth retired from a career he loved in 1987 and pursued full time medical mission work. Together he and Ruth served in 20 countries inspiring others with the love of Christ. Dr. Booth’s unique character of deep compassion combined with an emphasis on excellence made him beloved by many. He considered himself the most blessed person he knew.

Dr. Booth is preceded in death by his parents, John and Nancy Ellen (Akin) Booth, five siblings, and daughter Mrs. Joan Marie Edwards.

Our Jack, Dad, and PawPaw is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Martha Ruth Booth, his children, Ret. Col and Mrs. Tom (Mary K) Booth, Mrs. Janet (Tom) Hughes, Mike (Jamie) Booth, Mrs. Judy (Steve) Reinhardt, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Robert (Evelyn) Madu and family, Monica Ramirez and family, and Enza Chessa. We will deeply miss his quick wit, wry humor, and the witness of his faithfulness in all things.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Booth’s caregivers, Kendyl, Josephine, Alex, Sherry, Chanelle, and Bridget for their support, genuine love, and tremendous care.
