Funeral services for Mr. Sonny Tate,77 of Mercer will be conducted on Friday January 25th 2019 at 2:00 PM in the North Chapel of Georgia A. Smith and Sons with his Brother in law Jack Maness officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove cemetery.
Mr. Tate was born on February 10, 1941 in Silerton, TN to the late Aubrey and Omega Harris Tate. He was a Master Electrician for over 30 years for Sherkade Margold Electric Company which was based out of Yonkers, NY. Throughout his career he practiced his trade across the country including doing work on military bases and for NASA. Sonny enjoyed fishing, baseball, and played catcher in earlier years. He was also known for his barbecue and famous homemade sauce so many enjoyed.
Other than his parents Sonny was also preceded in death by a sister; Linda Allbert
He is survived by two daughters Karen Tate of Memphis, Tracie Lewis and husband Wayne of Milan, grandchildren Baylie Lewis, Logan Lewis and Hallie Lewis, two sisters; Nancy Pickens (Jim) of Florence, AL., Judy Maness (Jack) of Dandridge, TN. He is also survived by his children’s mother Brenda McMurry and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Sonny was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in July, 2018 and fought courageously until the very end.
Pallbearers to serve are; Taylor Harris, Brent Lewis, Cain Turner, Brooks Keel, Chad Williams and Jeff Harris
The family will receive friends on Thursday January 24, 2018 from 5 PM- 7PM at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons.
