Hans Peter Stein (Pete) passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home in Jackson, Tennessee, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born in 1926 in Hamburg, Germany, Pete’s family fled prior to the hostilities which resulted in WWII, ultimately sailing past the Statue of Liberty just as Hitler conquered Czechoslovakia in 1939. Having arrived in the USA as a 13-year-old boy who spoke only German, Pete graduated high school in 1944 in Chicago and entered active duty service with the US Navy that same year.
Pete earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and commenced a lengthy career in electronics, ultimately working for the federal government with Top Secret security clearance at the Naval Air Station at North Island, California, from 1975-1999 when he was forced into retirement at age 73. Pete was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity when he wasn’t indulging in the primary passion of his life: buying, fixing and selling vintage sports cars.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Gail Trunnell, his mother, Isa Persen, and his father Hermann Stein, and survived by his two sons, Tom Stein and Paul Stein.
